Lassie and the Eagle

Lady starred in 4 Lassie episodes that I know of. You can read more about them and see a couple of the original Lassie scripts here.

I recently found some footage of the episode Lassie and the Eagle on YouTube. This episode must have been after an episode where they used the footage of Lady raising the geese that you see in the film "Gifts of an Eagle".

If you know that film well, you'll recognize many of the shots that were used in this episode. It's funny to see how they reused them. By today's standards, it seems so careless how they used the footage. The terrain is different and they even used a shot of lady mildly threatening a wooden goose and presented it as Lady saying "Hi" to a real goose. I wonder how many people caught it at the time.

Still it's great to see and I hope more show up on YouTube. Here is the clip:
Edit: I spoke too soon on this post.  I also just found this preview of Lassie and The Treasure with Lady in it.

I stumbled across this page by accident as I was wanting to recommend the book Gifts of an Eagle to a cousin of mine who recently took a photo of a Golden Eagle strutting down a hillside in Little Washington, VA. I am originally from VA but am currently living in AZ. At any rate, I wanted to say that the book Gifts of an Eagle was my childhood favorite. I read it over and over again, never tiring of it. I am now 48 years old and still have that old copy in my possession - moving back and forth across the country with me. It is one of my most cherished possessions. My son is 14 now and I hope to convince him to read it and maybe he will enjoy it as much as I did and do.

I came across this when I was looking to see where the old house was on San Marcos Pass. My dad was a good friend of Ed's. He was a falconer, and we used to go up quite often to visit. My brother and I were just kids, and we loved seeing Lady raise the goslings, and the owls, and watching her fly. We also like climbing in the nest on the small cliff at the end of the yard. I have vivid memories of Lady coming in low after Kent when he would wear his red sweater, we would all run for the door! Thanks for sharing all of this!

I read Gifts of an Eagle with my father in about 1974. I still have the book, mud-stained from a classmate who stomped on it at school one day, and it's both a cherished book and a powerful memento of my dad. I live in Santa Barbara now, and it makes me happy to think that Lady flew over these skies.
